Mr. Hussain Dawood, Chairman The Dawood Group, who is also the Honorary Consul of Italy in Lahore, was awarded the Italian Republic Award (Ufficiale Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana) at the residence of H.E. Vincenzo Prati, the Italian Ambassador to Pakistan. The ceremony held in Islamabad on December 3rd, was attended by Ambassadors and Diplomats of various countries, Business Leaders and Local Dignitaries.

The Italian Order of Merit is awarded by the Government of Italy to individuals in recognition of their contributions in the fields of literature, economy, public service and social, philanthropic and humanitarian activities. Mr. Hussain Dawood has represented Italy as the Honorary Consul for the last seven years and took various initiatives to facilitate and enhance mutual diplomatic, cultural and economic relationships between Pakistan and Italy.

H.E. the Italian Ambassador said in his speech “Italy has been very close to Pakistan since the foundation of the Pakistani State and has built over the years a lively economic cooperation. We are not only looking with pride to the achievements of the past, we are also looking with expectation to the opportunities of the future. I would say that this Award is also to the merit of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, our partner. I would like to add: it is even to the merit of the larger business community operating in Pakistan”.

Mr. Hussain Dawood is the Chairman of Dawood Hercules Chemicals Ltd., Engro Chemical Pakistan Ltd, Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund and the Karachi Business School. He also serves as a member of the Boards of the Commonwealth Business Council, the Pakistan Business Council and the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy.
